Years ago, having a cup of coffee was as simple as black coffee or with cream, and maybe deciding on how many cubes of sugar to add. Then time came when people became conscious with sugar consumption and the choice of putting brown or white sugar or artificial sweetener came into the picture. Today, not only are we to choose between having brewed or instant, low fat or non fat, caf or decaf plus a variety of flavors to choose from (hazelnut, caramel, praline etc) we also have to think of brands. Folgers
We have all heard of Folgers coffee and many of us feel that they are indeed the best part of waking up. In fact, some of our older generations would even refer to “coffee beans” as Folgers. Not only is it big in the United States but all over the world. Most American household have a bag of Folgers, whether it be the instant kind or coffee beans for brewing. Folgers is the top coffee brand because of its longevity in the coffee industry, its unwavering quality and competitive price. It has more than a fifth of the market share.
Maxwell House
This is the second largest coffee brand in the market with a market share of 14.63 percent. Not only is it an inexpensive coffee of good quality but it has propelled it name to the top of the Coffee Industry through advertising. Like Folgers, Maxwell House advertisements can be found everywhere.
Starbucks
Starbucks coffee is a little pricier compared to Folgers and Maxwell. But because of its name and how it has marketed itself as a brand, Starbucks has quickly made a name for itself. Starbucks, the largest coffeehouse company in the world came in third place as one of the top coffee brands in the US market. Its name (Starbucks) has been associated to “take-out” coffee and “fancy coffee” with all its flavors, variants and its image as being “hip” and “fashionable”.
Folgers Coffeehouse
This is a brand that is different from the “Folgers” previously mentioned. Folgers Coffeehouse is a splinter brand of Folgers that carries a series of gourmet coffee. It is a coffee line under the Procter & Gamble.
Maxwell House Master Blend
Like Folgers Coffeehouse, Maxwell House Master Blend is a spinoff of its older namesake Maxwell House and carries the gourmet line of coffee. The brand is under Kraft Foods.
Chock Full O’ Nuts
What started out as a New York store in 1932 is now a worldwide brand with a market share of 2.27 %, earning the 6th place as one of top coffee brands.
Millstone
This brand started out as a private coffee brand until industry giant Proctor & Gamble purchased it and made its name known in the market. Now it is at number 7 with a market share of 2.24 %.
Seattle’s Best
A subsidiary of Starbucks, Seattle’s Best not only roasts and distributes coffee, but like Starbucks, it also has stores serving coffee from US and Canada to select countries all over the world.
Eight O’Clock

Yuban
Another one of the top coffee brands that is part of the Kraft Foods Family, Yuban is also one brand that markets itself as being environment friendly (one other brand is Starbucks).
